Do Braces and Invisalign Hurt?
What to Expect from Orthodontic Treatment

Braces do not typically cause sharp pain, but they do create pressure and soreness, especially after placement and adjustments.

This occurs because teeth are moving through bone under controlled orthodontic force.

At Beyond Braces Orthodontics, patients from Garland and Sachse commonly experience mild soreness for a few days after adjustments. The soreness starts after a couple of hours of putting braces on, getting new wires placed, or getting new ties on.

Moving teeth with Invisalign will cause a similar discomfort and soreness, as teeth are still moving through bone. Sometimes the pressure can be slightly less if programmed with less force, and the discomfort from the brackets and wires are not present.

Soft foods and over-the-counter pain relief can help during this period. Due to teeth movement being a inflammatory process, Acetaminophen like Tylenol is preferred over NSAIDs like Advil.

Most patients adapt quickly and return to normal activities without difficulty.
